The wait is long. The window is short.

We are parents of children with disabilities from across Alberta. Some of us are still waiting with no support.
Others have seen what timely support can make possible.

We are relatives, neighbours and people who care about children with disabilities. We share the same concern:

The delays are unacceptable—and we won’t stay silent.

Together, we are speaking up to ensure children get the support they need, when they need it.

No child should wait
years for support.

Albertan families are calling to end the delays in the Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program—because children need support now, not years from now.

Our kids can’t wait—and Alberta can’t afford for them to.

FSCD provides early intervention and family support for children with disabilities. When children wait years for FSCD services, they miss critical windows for development.

Needs grow, families face increasing strain, and classrooms feel it too—teachers are left to manage more complex needs without the support children require. Delays shift pressure onto other systems—education, healthcare, and child intervention—at far greater human and financial cost.

Albertan families are calling to end the delays in the Family Supports for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program—because children need support now, not years from now.

Child development moves fast. Disability support doesn’t.

Families across Alberta are now waiting years—not months for support through FSCD.

  • Wait times have stretched to three years or more

  • Early intervention windows are being missed

  • Families are left managing complex needs alone

Behind every delay is a child missing critical developmental opportunities that won’t come again.

FSCD was designed to provide timely support. Right now, it’s failing to deliver when it matters most.

“My son is diagnosed with autism, we apply for services, we are deemed eligible... That was Nov. 2023… radio silence. I know there are people who have been waiting longer than I have. All this while my child’s most precious years for development are slipping away.”

  • “I was diagnosed with cancer … I have had to put off my treatments until I am able to get respite care.... I’ve heard nothing back from FSCD”

  • "I feel alone, unsupported, and unequipped. I feel lost on how to manage his disability without SLP, OT, and behavioural specialists providing that guidance. My child has self-injurious stims that I don't know how to manage without the help of an OT specialist which breaks my heart as a mother.”

  • “Every single request for assistance and supports was denied!! To be told to drop the youth off at a youth emergency shelter is absolutely disgusting!!!!!!!”

  • “My son has had a contract for the past 2 years and it has saved our life. Our family circumstances were very tenuous when we applied. . . . Now we are all thriving, my husband and I are still married, and my son is in a regular kindergarten class. . . . We have a much greater understanding of his disabilities... and all the ways that he can be supported at home and in the community.”
